What is the Safest Way to Use Aromatherapy at Home?

One of the most common forms of aromatherapy is the scented candle. Of course, burning candles may pose a safety risk in homes with young children or pets. The safest way to use aromatherapy at home depends upon your individual household. There are plenty of alternatives to candles that you can use to fragrance your home and get the benefits of aromatherapy. One way is to continue to use candles with a candle warmer. A candle warmer is a device that warms the candle and releases the scent without the need for fire. It's a much safer way to experience the fragrance of a candle.

Another safe way to enjoy aromatherapy is with a lamp ring. These rings fit on an average sized lightbulb and hold scented oil. When the lamp is turned on, the scented oil is released throughout the home. You may want to use aromatherapy on yourself rather than in your home. Or, you could do both. There are plenty of fragrances and essential oils that can be used on the body for a therapeutic benefit. If you choose traditional essential oils, you will need to mix them with a carrier before applying them to the skin.

A carrier can be something like lotion, cream or even another oil. Jojoba and grapeseed are examples of good carrier oils. Once you've got the essential oil mixed with the carrier it can be applied to the skin. Another option would be to use a fragrance that can be used for both home and body. Demeter Pick Me Up fragrances fit the bill. These scents are perfect for your body and your home and come in an amazing variety of choices. Their scent library contains every imaginable fragrance. Examples include Dirt, Paperback, Play Doh, Angel Food, Fresh Hay and hundreds more.

The safest way to use aromatherapy at home is most any method that does not involve fire. Aromatherapy itself is quite safe. Of course, you could experience skin irritation if you applied a strong oil like peppermint or cinnamon to your skin. If you do have questions about the safety of aromatherapy as a treatment, ask your doctor. Or, you may want to consult with someone who is licensed to practice and advise on the subject of aromatherapy.
