The Connection Between Candles and Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is an ages old practice which uses the healing power of scent to create certain moods and responses. Candles and aromatherapy go together quite well, because candles can be used to fragrance your entire home. Not only that, but candles add the passionate, warm element of fire. The first thing you'll need to do if you want to use candles for aromatherapy purposes is decide what scent is best for your needs.

If you are looking for a relaxing, calming fragrance, try some soft floral or herbal scents. Lavender, chamomile, jasmine and honeysuckle are examples of flowery fragrances that are quite soothing. Maybe you want something to raise your flagging energy levels. Mint is great for this. Other spicy fragrances like cinnamon can also be used to invoke an energetic response. If you want to improve your mood, you can't go wrong with citrus. Of course, you can blend different scents together for a custom effect. This can be done by making your own candles or grouping together differently scented candles. For example, for a romantic and soothing environment try burning vanilla candles together with rose candles. Experiment with different scents to see what you like the best.

Candles aren't the only way to get the benefits of aromatherapy. You can also use scented oils around your home. Try saturating some cotton balls with scented oil and hiding them in various places around your home and vehicle. Under furniture and in wastebaskets are a great place to stash your scented cotton balls. Of course, you can also use oil burners to release fragrance into the air. You will find all kinds of burners to match any decor. They use tea lights to warm up a glass bowl which holds scented oil or wax. You can find these burners most anywhere candles are sold.

There are plenty of great scented candles and other products on the market today to fragrance your home. If you want to learn more about candles and aromatherapy, there is a lot of information on the Internet. You might also want to pick up a book or two on the subject of aromatherapy so that you can learn more about the different properties of certain scents.
